VENUE

The Metro is a grassroots, queer, inclusive and inherently political community venue – down to its crumbling bricks and mortar.

We can be found in an uneasy polycule made up of Hoxton, Shoreditch and Old Street – an area mainly consisting of disaster-capitalism backed co-working spaces and smash burgers.

We offer an antidote: a completely independent arts space, bringing community back to an area that often feels lost to corporate interests.

We salvaged most of our furniture from skips outside film sets.

We have the odd hole in our floor and we don’t seem to be able to keep our plants alive.

Our toilet, Sleepy Joe (Biden), gets a bit confused sometimes.

This is an evolving, progressive space. What we are this week might not be what we are next week.

The Metro is managed and is the home of Oskein, a Creative Production Studio, who built every inch of this space with their bare hands and a lot of Espresso Martinis.

FAQS

HOW CAN i book the the metro venue?

You can drop us an email at any time to bookings@themetrohoxton.com and tell us what you want to do and when. At The Metro it’s very much a dialogue – understanding what we can offer you, what the event is, whether it benefits our local community and we’ll go from there.

how much does it cost?

We offer the space free for community action groups, local residents, charities, queer orgs, friends and any other non-profit event with a good cause. We just ask you buy a few beers, and if it’s a sober event contribute a little something towards the overheads.

For events by companies, individuals or organisations that intend to profit off the event (directly or indirectly), we charge an extremely reasonable fee which is dependent on the size of the event.

ARE YOU FULLY LICENSED?

Currently we operate on Temporary Event Notices. As a result, we require at least 10 days notice for any bookings. If it’s under 10 we can try but we can’t guarantee.

what are your opening hours?

The Metro is open purely on a booked event basis. We are not open to the public on the daily, so our opening hours vary depending on what we have on. That said, as long as another private event isn’t on, feel free to drop in and say hi anytime!

is the metro a lgbtq+ FRIENDLY VENUE?

YES!

is the metro an accessible venue?

We are on the ground floor so in one way yes BUT our toilet is extremely small and there really isn’t much we can do about that within our current means. Everything we have built here has come from the profits of Oskein, and that does not stretch to full construction works to redesign the space. There is an accessible toilet just around the corner at MeatLiquor. We are working on it and we apologise.

What’s your capacity?

About 100. Depending on what you want to do.

What sort of events can i put on?

We are open to all types of event.

This can be a club night, a social, a gallery, a fundraiser, a film screening, a play, visual performance, book club, knitting club – or something more inventive we’ve never seen before.

We want to provide a fully modular, exciting, flexible space for people to express themselves, be creative and create beautiful experiences.

We also want the humans who have booked the space to feel safe and comfortable. That means that while The Metro is open to everyone to book and to drop in, we will respect and enforce the individual event policy – if it’s FLINTA only, it’s FLINTA only.

Please note however – we are not an apolitical venue and we will not take bookings from organisations or individuals that cause harm to people, the planet or promote hate, bigotry, war so on. You get the general idea. Take your Joe Rogan listening parties elsewhere….

CAN I RUN THE BAR?

No, sorry. Only The Metro staff can staff the bar and all bar profits go directly back into running and maintaining The Metro.
